Day 35 - Lots of good news!

So there's been a lot going on here the last few days - good stuff, this time. When I came to see Isaac yesterday, I thought he had a huge setback - there was a C-PAP machine and an IV. After a few seconds of panic, I realized that it was an other baby, and he had been moved. He's now in the Neonatal Progressive Care Unit, which is for babies who need less care. With regard to his recent "spells," Isaac has had very few desats, and hasn't needed freeflow oxygen in 2 days! They don't know if this had anything to do with his PDA valve, but they are pleased. The cardiologist came in this morning to do another echo. The medication did not close the valve, but the he said that he is not sick enough for surgery, and would just need some follow up in a few weeks. So that means more good news - we are on the transfer list for Oshawa hospital, and hope to go sometime this weekend!!

They repeated his head ultrasound yesterday, and the very mild bleed which he had is resolving now! He had an eye test yesterday (some preemies have issues with their retina). The results were excellent, and I was told that he has "very mature retinas." I'm guessing that is a good thing.

The physiotherapist came today and spent about 20 minutes with him observing & "playing." She said that he did well in every area of her assessment, even surpassing some of the benchmarks. She said that he thinks he's an older baby! She also said that the Kangaroo Care has probably contributed to his great progress.

I've also been able to connect with a lot of people in the past few days, which has been really great for me. Any time I'm tempted to have a little pity party, I'm reminded how blessed we are and how much God is in control! He has held this tiny baby in his hands, and has big plans for little Isaac!

One last piece of not so good news...I got a $50 parking ticket this morning. :( Hey - if that's the worst thing that I have to complain about, then life is not so bad!

P.S. How come your parking ticket was $50.00 and mine was only $20.00?

It's funny that you mention a parking ticket. I too as going to receive a ticket. However, the officer was so kind to give me a warning and spared me the ticket. Hoping to meet you this weekend!=)Glad to hear that Issac is doing so well. Maybe he will be placed in the same area as our EVelyn! I know that there's a space near Evelyn becasue there is a baby going home today!

Marya and Eric - Kim Aukema here - been a long time but heard of your Isaac through Jennifer - a high school friend of mine. Small world - and she's not even dutch!
I have read your blog now and will be following closely - praying for Isaac, your family and the nurses/doctors caring for him. Glad to hear you're going close to "home." *hugs*
