So, because Isaac was so early and so small, he is at risk for (among other things) hearing issues. He had his second screening today - his first one was in the NICU, and was fine. Today I had to bring him in to the appointment, have him fall asleep there, and stay asleep during the test. They advised to keep him awake for at least 3 hours before, and not feed him. So I had a grumpy, fussy baby who wanted to fall asleep in the van. Once we got there, I fed him, and he did fall asleep. Unfortunately, I had to put him down, and have no soother in his mouth. The woman administering the test did not whisper at all! You'd think that she'd lower her voice when I'm trying to get this little guy asleep!! Then she had to attach electrodes all over, and put probes in his ear...all while he slept. Thankfully, it worked and she was able to do the test in less than an hour (I had visions of having to return on another day if it didn't work today). She said his hearing is perfect, and she has no concerns! We will return at a year, but that's just precautionary.
This is just one more of the many, many things for which we are so incredibly thankful. Long-term eye issues, lung issues, heart problems, brain bleeds, muscle-tone issues...these are all problems that he could have been dealing with, and much more. But he is a healthy, strong baby. Yes, can be fussy, and he needs to be held more than other babies. That's okay. He has been through a lot, and he needs the extra care. He also tends to get colds very easily, so we need to be careful where we take him. But we have a wonderful pediatrician, and access to so many specialists and resources. I couldn't imagine having to pay for all these services we recieve. We are thankful to live in a country with such a wonderful healthcare system. I will not complain about paying taxes!!
The rest of our boys have all been under the weather this past week. We've done a lot of snuggling, sleeping on the couches, and watching movies. I wish I had a few extra arms to hold 3 sad boys at once. But I think they are on the mend now, and hopefully in a day or two, they'll be back to their old selves (please!!!).
